Why mobile keyboard is below the display?

Posted from N73 through Flickr
I've been wanting to have a reversed phone for a long time. I cannot see why it couldn't be possible.
In the regular layout, with the hands of taiga- region dweller, it's nearly impossible to reach the lowest keys like C.

There could also be only reversed display for starters. Users should be able to rotate the display content. That could be done easily?

At the moment some applications turn the display automatically sideways, and in some applications like Y-browser by Jukka Silvennoinen, you can choose the layout really easily. (in case of having S60 phone, -just get it)

One problem concerning automaticly rolling display content is that when gadget is used horizontally (ie. on the table), the sensors usually don't understand the position and the display starts to flicker. -In a mobile phone it creates a problem, unlike with cameras, where the function is widely used.

Interesting topic is that what kind of things should be changed in the keyboard to make this turn work..

Yes, keyboard would still stay as it is, but then you should be able to use it upside down. That is if you really really want to...

Anyway, if there was enough demand for such a phone then it would be available by now?

If a person wants to type or use it othervice extensively other than just check the pictures there should be some changes in the keyboard. -Maybe a touch display, where the keys would be rearranged by software.

That's the point. I think there should have been a phone like this, but why there isn't? Is it a accustomed layout or is it just a crappy idea.?

Because of posting throught Flickr, I got a great tip in there from Pinja:
Samsung and Bang&Olufsen have actually made a reversed fashion phone, called Serene.

It might not be for hard use, but still it's great to see it in use =)

I remember seeing that somebody has already patented the idea of reversed phone in Finland. So he/she would make some money if those were sold in Finland. But as an idea it is great. And the phone would fit your hand better.

Maybe the phone could operate so that when it's turned upside down the screen and the functions of the buttons change. And when looking at the buttons you could see them the right way, like when looking at holograms, you see one thing from one side and other thing from other side.

But this is only speculating. Maybe some day it could be possible...
